The screen protection market continues to catch up with curved edges of the iPhone 6. This is good, as more quality options are available to us, but bad in that we’re likely only a few months away from a new iPhone design. If you’re looking for solid protection before then, or have no desire to upgrade this fall, the latest round edge iPhone 6 screen protector we’d like to recommend is the Gladiator Glass from Kyasi.
The Gladiator Glass is curved ballistic tempered glass that covers your iPhone 6 screen from edge to edge. It accommodates the rounded edges via the titanium alloy frame, which curves with them. The frame looks fairly natural on your iPhone 6, although the dark gray review unit they provided us (also available in silver and gold) doesn’t match the space gray of my iPhone 6, and the silver accents around the camera, speaker and Touch ID openings are a bit more garish than Apple would ever allow.
I also noticed the frame extends a bit over the iPhone 6 screen itself, perhaps my just a millimeter or so. It’s nothing that interferes with the use of the iPhone, but it was noticeable in some of the games I play.
Those immediate gripes aside, there’s plenty to like about the Kyasi Gladiator Glass. First, the installation procedure is a breeze—wipe off your screen with the provided alcohol wipes and microfiber cleaning cloth, use the dust stickers to remove any specks that may subsequently land on your screen, then simply remove the backing from the Gladiator Glass itself, align it with your phone, and apply. Alignment is easy because the curved edges kind of guide it. You then press in the center of the screen and wipe outwards to remove any bubbles that may appear. I had none.
Now, as you can see in the photos below, there is a tiny gap between the Gladiator Glass and the phone around the edges. This is somewhat noticeable when you hold it, but it doesn’t interfere with use.
If it bothers you, you may want to grab a silicone case to use in conjunction with the Gladiator Glass, as the soft edges will allow it to wrap around or over the screen protector. My AndMesh for iPhone 6 works very well in this regard.
Of course, what really matters is the quality of the projection provided, and Kyasi claims the ballistic grade tempered glass comes with 9H anti-scratch coating that also provides 300% impact resistance. I’m not willing to test impact, but I can verify that it is able to survive a prolonged period of bouncing around inside of backpacks and laptop bags, along with the not-so-gentle use of my children. I can also verify that if the Gladiator Glass interferes at all with screen clarity, I wasn’t able to detect it.
At $49.95, the Kyasi Gladiator Glass iPhone 6 screen protector is towards the top of the pricing spectrum, but that’s where it belongs. It’s a quality case that goes on well, stays put and does what it’s supposed to do.
